Express Yourself!

Published June 4, 2014 by Angela

I tend to be pretty lenient when it comes to what my girls do with their hair. I mean, they are the ones who have to walk around with whatever style they cut it, or color it. I learned it is much easier than fighting it. Because when I fight it:

1) One of them will shave half their head to the scalp while I am at work

2) They will see exactly how much peroxide really does bleach their hair

3) They will take all of the Kool-Aid from the cupboard and use it to die their hair

4) they will randomly cut chunks of hair off in such a manner that no haircut could hide or fix it

I figure, it could be much worse. Like me finding the box with the alcohol wipes, straight pins, and stud earrings in it that my 12 year old was going to use to pierce her own nose.

Hair choices? Yes. Random holes in their body that will likely get infected? No. I made it clear to all of them that they can just save themselves the time and pain because if I see it, it is coming out anyhow.

My 16 year old is bugging to get the cartilage in her ear pierced. I told her it hurts way too bad (yes I know from experience, more than once even), and I certainly hope she does not try to do that on her own.

What have your kids done that has shocked you? I don’t even know at this point if anything would shock me anymore 🙂

Because I’m That Good, That’s Why!

It is funny, and almost kind of scary, that I can tell what type of attitude my 16 year old has, through a text message. I asked a simple question, and she replied with a snotty answer. What did I do? I told her to lose the attitude!

“How do you know I have an attitude?”

“Because I am your Mom, and I can hear your voice and see the look on your face as I read your text messages!”

Fair enough” she says.

Being rude through social media is not acceptable. You better talk to me electronically the same way you talk to me when we are in front of each other.

And Yes, I can also hear you roll your eyes, from the back of my head where I keep an extra set of eyes and ears!

Be Careful What You Ask For!

For quite some time now, I have been praying for God to please help me with my patience. Okay. My lack of patience, which is generally a horrible problem for me. Most times I can cope fairly well, but when it is bad, it is really, really bad. When I seem to have 10 things to do and only time for 5, or I need to be in more than one place at the same time (this happens so much to me!), I get short on patience and long on anger.

Well of course I am going to have situations that test my patience, I keep asking God for just that thing. So since I am fully aware of what is going on, why can’t I deal with it better? Why can’t I take a deep breath, exhale, hold my tongue, and examine the situation for what it is? Take the situation in as a whole, divide it up into pieces, and work on one thing at a time, because that is really all any of us are capable of doing.

Instead, I immediately lose my patience, and Lord help anyone who is in the way of my words. I don’t yell or swear, but I certainly do not talk in a calm, helping manner. I feel mean, I feel upset that I can lose my cool that fast. I feel like this major character flaw I have is getting the best of me, at the worst of times. So, what do you do when you get exactly what you ask for?

Make the best of it. See it for what it is. An opportunity to improve, grow, change. To be a better you. To show a better you.

Don’t ask for something if you are not truly prepared to handle it. I am ready to handle it. In the worst situations, I can be at my best.

When You Would Rather Be Working Then At Home With Your Children

Yes, I will admit it. I cannot wait to leave for work, so I can get some piece-and-quiet. I am so beyond tired of the bickering over “I didn’t get my turn on the laptop, she was on too long, it’s not fair, you never let me……” and on and on and on it goes.

ahhhh, if only I drank :-)

ahhhh, if only I drank 🙂

So, they are going to be super happy to hear that the laptop will be locked in my bedroom for the next week, and that I am getting rid of the cable. That’s two less things they will have to fight about, and I won’t have to pay that crapass company Comcast another 200+ for a monthly cable bill. Of course, we will be having this discussion tonight as I walk out the door for work; that gives them the whole entire night to stew about it, and hopefully start to get over it 🙂

Now I can start getting the “I’m bored song and dance. Get rid of two evils to add another one in 🙂

And how is the start of your weekend going?

I’m Sorry You Lost Your 11th Pair Of Headphones…

Published March 15, 2014 by Angela

…and No I will not stop to the store to buy you your 12th pair.

How do you lose something that is literally stuck inside 2 orifices in your body? Do you not notice when you suddenly don’t hear the music that was blasting your eardrums a second ago?

You never take them out when I am talking to you, so I was assuming you just never took them out.

I lost a baton once; no one bought me a new one. I lost a pair of roller skates, too. That really sucked, but that was also about the time I quit leaving my stuff in places it didn’t belong. I would suggest you do the same. Honestly, I am thinking the damn headphones are in one of the pockets of those 2 pairs of jeans that you lost. Go figure.
